Not an online portfolio but i found good inspiration when looking at this personal website of a professional soccer player. Its Intended for him to get closer to his fans and i think it would also work well for a portfolio design grabbing peoples attention. I really enjoyed the overall layout . To navigate it has one standard navigation column with titles to each page, but one can also navigate with broken up columns that have different cover images.
