Kyle Atkinson - Inspiration

http://abduzeedo.com
I spend a good deal of time trying to learn from the tutorials on this site. There are some great Photoshop and Illustrator tutorials based on popular designs that you see around.

I'm always trying to get better with the plain old pen on paper. These two seem to have it down.

Just about everything I have learned about speed-painting in Photoshop has been from watching and mimicking the techniques in this guys videos.

Not an online portfolio but i found good inspiration when looking at this personal website of a professional soccer player. Its Intended for him to get closer to his fans and i think it would also work well for a portfolio design grabbing peoples attention. I really enjoyed the overall layout . To navigate it has one standard navigation column with titles to each page, but one can also navigate with broken up columns that have different cover images. I like that its broken up into sections and one can get a bit interactive. http://www.javier14mascherano.com/es/

Emilio Jimenez

I like the concept of this portfolio, and how each page appears to be in it's own folder.  There are a few things I would change though.  Instead of having the links or folders go down the left side of the page, I think it would be more ideal to have all the links go across the top of the page for better navigation.  Other than that though the overall appeal of the portfolio is really nice.

Matt Simpson

The reason this portfolio stood out to me is because of the overall simplicity.  It uses a white background on every page with different shades of gray for the text.  The navigation also complimented the simplicity of the portfolio because it stayed the same on every page and looked for clean.  Even though it is very simple, this portfolio still has a good feel to it.

Willie Honig

This portfolio is another simple design that is easy to navigate and very clean.

Ruwedata

I love the layout of this site with the pictures of each project lining up perfectly across and down the page.  I also love the black and white color scheme.  Although I think it would look nicer if the images went to color when you scrolled over them.  I also like the small details towards the top left corner.  The detailing acts as a frame almost so that it draws you into the portfolio, but it isn't so bold that it takes away form the portfolio either.

Gina's examples

Example 1

I was drawn to this page because of the interesting textures. I don't necessarily like the image used on the left but they way that it moves your eye to the information on the left is successful.

Example 2
This layout I really life. When clicking on the portfolio link I like how it is broken up into sections I definitely want to incorporate that into my site. The home page is also clean and set up organized with an interesting image through the middle. These are all import to my aesthetic and things that I definitely wasn't to be apart of my digital portfolio.

Example 3

This is a great simple example of a layout. I will incorporate more bright colors and visually successful imagery into it but I feel the three basic pages are something that I will lean towards in mine. Obviously the motion of the images and movement from page to page is something I will leave out as well.

Johnathan Kolodziejczyk

I like the grid layout. I will probably use a basic grid in my layout.

55 Inspiring and Clever Online Portfolios

Inspiring Websites

For the moment I want my portfolio to "live" on Krop. I really like the grid layouts.
A few portfolio layouts on Krop that I find "inspiring" are:

Inspiring Sites

Two great sites I found are Steffen Christiansen and Alisara Tareekes. Each of these sites are obviously different in their designs but what's similar between them that I loved was their consistencies and the way they presented their works, as well as a few little widgets in their sites.

With Christiansen's site he has a nice esthetic going by making his cover/gallery page mostly grayscale with his logo, his type, and even the colors of his cover images; however, what makes his site cool is that he put in his own overlay image that shows a simple angular design in a cool teal color then puts some information about the work in the box.  This creates a nice contrast to the site and gives it a little flair.  Another little thing that I found nice was that instead of relying solely on his "Contact" page to give information he has his number and email on the top of every page, consistency.
Alisara Tareekes' website intrigued me for some of the same reasons but in different ways.  She created consistency in her site by creating a stichy/leathery esthetic and puts it into almost every aspect of her site that she can.  One great example is how she puts a simple border around each of her cover images to set them apart while bringing them together.  She also incorporates the colors used in her logo into the site creating a nice connect between the site and her identity.

Simon Spring

I found Simon's site looking through great portfolio examples on behance.net and what really attracted me to his site and basically everything in it was how organized and clean it was.  Everything was nicely aligned, consistent and when he displays his work he makes sure to not only show just the design for something but takes great photographs of his work to show different views.

Something I liked that I want to try to incorporate into my online portfolio is rollovers for each cover image that gives the information about each piece of work.  What's great about these is that you don't even need to put that much information and it will still make you portfolio stand out that much more and make it look that much more professional without doing anything crazy with your site.

Inspiring Online Websites!

This online portfolio is similar to the portfolio i did in Art & Internet except this one is executed much more professionally. I like the idea of putting a picture of myself so the Interviewer or future client I meet with will be able to put a face to the work and hopefully will remember my interview over someone else's. This is something I'd really like to somehow incorporate into my own portfolio. I also think the previews of her work on the right hand side like that are a nice feature but I think hers are a little too big. If I was to do something like this id shrink down those preview sizes and fit more into a screen without having to scroll.

I'm in LOVE with the layout of this portfolio and the quirky little comments that are incorporated into it. The layout is simple and easy to navigate through. I love the rollovers with previews of designs that turn into a description of the work inside. I would like to try and mimic that by stating the kind of work you'll see if you click on that image (much like how i separated my physical portfolio into sections). I also enjoy the navigation being to the left of everything in this portfolio, so I might even work that into my own portfolio as well!

PRINT BUSINESS CARDS AND PORTFOLIOS

Hey guys, I wanted to let you all know that I work with a printing company called Quantum Graphix in Louisville, KY through my job. I have a direct contact and I just got a quote from her. To print 200 business cards, double sided, color it will only cost about $50 including shipping. The production from start to finish takes about 1 week. They can also print a lot of your portfolios. They have printed all of ALI's (the company I work for) materials from brochures to textbooks. If any of you want to get a quote or more information, let me know!!

Anyone getting books made?

I found this really great website called blurb that makes books specifically for portfolios! I'm really looking into them.

Tips for Non-Designers

I saw this article and thought it was a great way for us all to let the non-designers in our life (personal and professional) know what we need from them.
