Making your own wax seal

http://phesine.blogspot.com/2012/08/how-to-make-wax-seal-stamp-from-sculpey.html

Here is some of the directions I found for making your own wax seal pretty easily.

smartpress.com is the printing company I'm using for my leave behind!

Leave behind/portfolio idea

I honestly had no idea what I wanted to do.  I looked through some brochures, so pamphlets, and other leave behinds that people made but still wasn't sure.  Then I looked back at one of my old posts and in the video I found he mentions Dane Creek Folios and their 8.5x11 acid free portfolios.  Considering that their price for one is $5.75, which includes 10 sheets of paper, my plan is to just order 20 or so pieces of either acid free paper or some type of nicer paper and recreate their portfolios smaller, probably 6x9. Also even though the main focus of these portfolios is for photography I think they'll still work great for any piece of work.

Elements of a great web design portfolio

This is a good article on simple facts for design portfolios. The video we watched in class went through most of it, but this is good too.

Soft Cover Printed Portfolio

This is funny...

I know this doesn't have anything to do with our portfolios, but it's hilarious.

Leave Behind

While researching for leave behind ideas I kept coming back to the pamphlet that opens up into 5 or 6 pages because it's simple and crafty but I didn't know what I could do to give it a unique quality. Then I found this non traditional one where it takes on the shape of a car and I thought that was really cool. Now i'm thinking maybe morphing the pamphlet into a shape of my own that opens up and can still stand and support itself could be a cool way to layout my leave behind. It's innovative and something I think would leave a good impression with future employers. Just an idea!

Cool Online Portfolio

I love this guys portfolio! It's so clean and well designed. I like that he has all that info about himself along with a picture of himself in the beginning of the booklet. The way he segregates his work is clean yet tasteful as well.

Stephanie Hagin - Portfolio books

Here are a couple sites that I found where you can get a portfolio book.  These sites offer bamboo, aluminum, acrylic, or just a regular hard cover book.  I am pretty sure someone already posted the last link but it is the best one I have found so definitely check it out!

I really like the idea of the screwpost design for my portfolio, where its easy to remove and add pages. Having a  high glossy feel to the book with an engraved logo would also suffice for a durable, clean and beautiful portfolio.

Cool/Clean Portfolio

I loved the navigation and layout of this designers portfolio. It also had a button that said "Hire Me" in the corner of her website which I thought was a good idea. I also liked the use of previews of her work on the home page that led me to some of her design work, a lot of which had to do with apps and desktop improvements.

Online portfolio

http://gaksdesigns.com

I found this portfolio on line.  It's a little too minimal for me, and I love minimalistic approaches.  But it has amazing graphic work, especially the Hair Study had me drooling. Definitely check it out.

I've also been looking in the AppStore on itunes for some good portfolio programs.  Theyre pretty cheap which is awesome.

portfolio box

I have recently been exploring Martine's idea of the "portfolio box" and matting all my pieces to place into it. Here are examples of a few that seem to work well. Some open like a book and all your pieces sit inside. And the third one down is really interesting to me but it seems a bit large. I am not sure exactly what I am looking for and have not really seen a ton of sites that allow you to buy them but I will definitely keep looking around. But if you guys seen any unique boxes definitely post them!!!!!

I also like these for (non)traditional portfolios:

This site also offers nice portfolios:

Portfolio References

THIS IS NOT MY OWN! I found it on Tumblr but it's so informational. Check out some of the links!

A collection of portfolio references I’ve been collecting for a while now. Mostly from recently graduated design students.  http://www.elieahovi.com/ - One of my favorite references right now, this dudes our age and working as an intern at MNML design in Chicago. The trash collector is a badass projecthttp://renelee.net/ - Very simple, you can tell why the guy works at apple. I love how he starts each project with a question. My favorites are the Pico projector and also the Arc printer. http://dawod.se/ - His website takes a while to download but I definitely recommend downloading his 15mb portfolio and breathing it in. All sick projects.  http://www.bossmark.se/  - Her presentation and layouts are really beautiful. A good reference. http://erikkreider.net/ - This guy interns at fuseproject, and has great sketch development. Definitely worth a look. http://www.mirkoihrig.com/  -  Also interning at fuseproject. Really simple stuff, not much process but still inspirational. And you can’t go wrong with the cargo collective theme he’s using. http://www.szpryngwald.com/ - Similar style and stuff to Mirko.  http://cargocollective.com/ollihirvonen - Some nice stuff. http://linakuroi.com/ - Clean and beautiful work.
http://evangelos.co/work - Stunning and simple website, I really l like his photography. http://www.kataokadesign.com/web/site.cgi? - More accomplished designer but great render reference. http://junjikawabe.com/ - Recent NC State graduate he works in Shanghai at Lenovo. His portfolio is one of the most unique and interesting I’ve ever seen.http://www.sejoonkim.com/index.html - Super simple, beautiful designs. I like the explanations and stories he tells. http://www.behance.net/gallery/About-me/1015709 - I really like the three slides he shows on here. The photograph with all his possessions and the quote “who am I” is really good. I want to steal that idea. http://www.gabrieltootoo.com/ - Shoe designer, NC State alumni, very unique interactive portfolio website. http://www.julienbergignat.com/ - Awesome stuff, very conceptual and cool stories.

Travel Journal

This lady's portfolio is a travel journal. It's very simply laid out and looks clean.

Stephanie Hagin

These are some of the portfolio's I found.  The first one has an awesome design that is more interactive.  The last two I just really liked the layouts.
1.) Jon Ruppel
2.) Michael Muller
3.) Pete Harrison (aka. Aeiko)
